What is Pilates?

Pilates is a system of low impact exercises designed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century. It is designed to improve posture, flexibility and core strength to help people keep, regain and maintain the ability for quality body movement. It is able to be adjusted for every level of fitness and is great for helping with rehabilitation after injury.

Mat classes use an assortment of equipment such as balls, sticks, weights, stretchy bands, swiss balls and magic circles to provide interest and variety to the workouts.

Reformers (look like a low bed with springs and pulleys) are used to assist or resist movement to gain strength and body awareness.

Breathwork is encouraged in all exercises to aid concentration.

All people build up movement habits that are not beneficial and Pilates helps you to realign and create stability and endurance and reduces the risk of injury and falls. It does not build up bulky muscles but is designed to create a leaner longer look.
